DyslexAI

A private reading tutor who knows your child, for the price of an app.

A reading tutor unlike anything you’ve seen.

DyslexAI is Nova Learning Labs’ first tutor: a mobile reading app for children with dyslexia. Practice fits your family’s day, and the tutor is still there next time.

Open to 8–12 families.

Nothing else works like this

Entirely dynamic, built around your child

Every part of DyslexAI adapts around your child’s interests and wishes.

We believe it’s the first reading tutor that’s dynamic from end to end.

  • Customize the tutor
  • Customize their avatar
  • Choose your stories
  • See dynamic scenes generated from those stories
  • Have conversational parent-teacher conferences with the tutor

Why DyslexAI

Made for one child at a time

Learning to read can ask a child to try the same sound, again and again. DyslexAI stays with that work. It is a mobile reading tutor for children with dyslexia: patient, personal, and ready whenever your child opens it.

Parents use it by monthly subscription. There is nothing to schedule. Your child can pause and come back to a tutor who remembers where you left off.

How it works

Five things a reading tutor should do

A tutor who truly knows your child

  • You define the tutor: gender, age (a college student, an adult, or a grandparent), voice, and how formal or casual they should sound. An avatar is created from the description you give.
  • The tutor chats with your child, learns what they care about, and remembers it the next time you open the app.
  • Each child in the family has their own tutor and profile, and can switch tutors anytime.

A new story every time, about whatever the child loves

  • Every lesson is a new story built around a topic your child chooses, such as wizards, a favorite football team, or dolls. Age-appropriate guardrails keep the story suitable for your child.
  • The story grows more complex as your child gets older, and a themed backdrop brings it to life.
  • Your child can stop to chat, or pick a new topic and start a different story.

Real structured-literacy rigor underneath

  • Each story is built from 15–20 level-appropriate target words, using structured literacy based on Orton-Gillingham principles.
  • Your child reads each word aloud, and speech recognition scores it on the spot.
  • Words come back in later lessons until they are mastered, and the pace adapts to your child.

Built to protect confidence

  • Reading a word correctly unlocks the next sentence, so the story itself is the reward.
  • A miss gets a hint and a retry. After three tries, the tutor takes the blame — “I’m not hearing it right. It’s probably my fault.” — and the story continues.

Parents as partners

  • You see live stats on every word attempt, what succeeded, and your child’s skill and level.
  • Meet with the tutor anytime, the way you would for a parent-teacher conference: a progress summary, or questions about anything your child read or discussed.

How it compares

The tutor relationship, at app pricing

Private Orton-Gillingham tutors typically cost $60–100 an hour. App-only reading programs use fixed lessons, with no tutor relationship. DyslexAI gives you that relationship for the price of an app.

App-only reading program

Fixed lessons, and no tutor who knows your child.

Inside the app

Meet the tutors

Miranda and Randy are the tutors DyslexAI starts with. Your child can practice with either of them. They are starting points: you can change gender, age, voice, and how formal they sound, and an avatar is created from the description you give. Each child can have their own, and switching is always welcome.

Miranda

Starting point

Warm and unhurried. She gives your child time, repeats gently, and treats a small step as something worth noticing.

Randy

Starting point

Clear and steady. He keeps each step short, encourages honest effort, and makes it easy to begin again.

Founding families

Join our founding pilot

We are inviting 8–12 families to use DyslexAI at home before anyone else. What you notice will help us make the tutor calmer, clearer, and more useful.

If you would like a place, tell us a little about your family. We read every application ourselves.
